ELKHART - Indiana author Jamie Ward will reveal some of the state’s most fascinating destinations and hidden wonders at the next Noon Time Talks event at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at the Midwest Museum of American Art, 429 S. Main St.

Ward will also be signing copies of her new book, “Secret Indiana: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure,” which will be the basis of her talk. The book features three Elkhart County locations - the Midwest Museum of American Art, the Lerner Theatre, the RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum.

“Elkhart County is a pretty amazing place, with wonderful experiences, charming downtowns, engaging artisans and entrepreneurs, and off-the-beaten path diversions for visitors of all types. We’re excited to welcome Jamie back to the county where she grew up and still clearly loves,” said Jon Hunsberger, executive director of the Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Midwest Museum of American Art has been a signature attraction in downtown Elkhart since its founding in 1979. “Secret Indiana” features the museum on a two-page spread, highlighting its extensive collection of hand-signed lithographs by the beloved Norman Rockwell as well as the massive bank vault door that leads to one gallery.

“The Midwest Museum celebrates the distinguished history of American artists, drawing on a rich tapestry of talent across many mediums, from paintings to drawings and sculpture and photography. Being recognized in Jamie’s book affirms our standing as a place for art lovers and the exceptional quality of the Midwest Museum’s collection,” said Jennifer Abrell, co-director of the Midwest Museum of American Art.

Ward will also be signing her book at Bella’s Books & Curiosities, 151 S. Main St., Nappanee, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 9.

Other Elkhart County locations featured in Ward’s book are:

  • The Lerner Theatre, 410 S. Main St. Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Ward notes the theatre’s 1924 Kimball pipe organ, urban legends, and its extensive renovation in 2008.
  • RV/MH Hall of Fame & Museum, 21565 Executive Parkway. Ward writes that the museum is a haven for aficionados of recreational vehicles and the extensive exhibits and documents that chart the history of the industry’s development.

Ward is the founder of the Cornfields and High Heels blog and has traveled extensively to share her adventures with her readers. She is also the author of “100 Things To Do in Indiana Before You Die.” Her writing appears on her blog, social media channels and for travel clients across the country. She grew up in the Elkhart County area.
