- More Info About Elkhart County
Elkhart
The heart and soul of Elkhart County is its namesake city, Elkhart. Here, culture and commerce combine to create a vibrant city unlike any other. From historic theaters to restaurants serving up traditional midwest dishes and other tasty cuisines to outdoor spaces designed to bring out the adventurer in you, Elkhart is a cultural cornerstone with a vibrant, diverse and unique community.
Elkhart is a city of makers. From craft brews to artistic pieces you can take home and treasure forever, this city surprises and delights at every turn. When you shop, you may meet the person who made the crafts. When you eat, you will likely meet the owner of the restaurant, pouring their creativity into every dish and drink. By the end of your visit, you will become a part of Elkhart, and Elkhart will become a part of you.
To truly connect with the authentic spirit of northern Indiana, you need to explore our history. The Ruthmere Museum was once the home of one of Elkhart’s most prominent families and the center of high society social life. Now it’s open for the public to explore what life was like in the city’s early days. The Beardsley house shows you turn of the century living while the creative designs and vibrant colors of the gardens will take your breath away.
The Lerner Theatre sits in the heart of the city and is stunning inside and out. It hosts an array of entertainers and concerts and is home the award winning Premier Arts and the amazing Kimball Organ Series. You’ll feel like you’re back in a 1920s moviehouse and will likely catch yourself lipsynching along.
How about a little pop culture? You can find it at the Hall of Heroes Superhero Museum. Here you find DC, Marvel, and more across all mediums: comics, TV, and movies. Young and old eyes will light up at all the rare memorabilia.
The great outdoors here are just that: great! Kayak down the river or leisurely stroll the RiverWalk Trail. Find beauty in every turn at our meticulously crafted gardens. Linton’s Enchanted Gardens offers a train tour through the nine-acre spread. Wellfield Botanic Gardens has dozens of picturesque recurring gardens as well as new designs annually.
Road Warriors will love pulling up to the RV/Mobile Home Hall of Fame. Trace the iconic vehicles from their humble early 1900s roots to the luxury behemoths that rule the road today, and maybe even meet with a dealer to get one for yourself.
When you’re ready to delight your tastebuds, the food and drink in Elkhart can’t be matched. Iechyd Da Brewing Company is our first and oldest brewing company, and you can grab a growler to go! Artisan gets creative by taking food to the next level with their farm to table Midwest cuisine. You can pair with a handcrafted cocktail or glass of vino from their thoughtful wine list. If a casual meal is what you’re looking for The Vine is the perfect place to go! This charming bistro is located in historic downtown and serves steaks, seafood, pizza, pasta, salads and more. Simply stroll up and down the Gateway Mile and you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for.
