Accomplished author and food writer Carrie Steinweg will be helping the Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrate Sip & Savor Elkhart County by signing copies of her new book, “Unique Eats and Eateries of Indiana,” at Fables Bookstore on Friday, March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The book signing is happening in conjunction with the monthly Goshen First Fridays throughout downtown Goshen on Friday, March 7. This month’s theme is Taste of Goshen and includes food specials from a variety of restaurants and businesses, including those participating in Sip & Savor Elkhart County - Goshen Brewing Company, JoJo’s Pretzels, Shirley’s Popcorn, The Table @ 108 and Venturi.
The book signing provides an opportunity to chat with authors and find inspiration and connection. Joining Steinweg for the book signing is Michelle Gladieux, who wrote “Communicate with Courage.” Steinweg will also sign her book at Iechyd Da Brewing Company in Elkhart on Wednesday, March 6.
“Indiana is underrated as a food destination. The food landscape of the Hoosier state is an immense melting pot of ethnic cuisines, farm-to-table, innovative menus, Indiana-born concoctions, craft beers, comfort food, hand-dipped candy shops, nostalgic diners and much more. This book celebrates that culinary diversity while sharing stories of what makes each place unique,” author Carrie Steinweg said.
The book was published in fall 2024 and highlights 83 restaurants and food businesses throughout Indiana. Five in the Elkhart County area each get their own section: Blue Gate Restaurant, Shipshewana; Das Dutchman Essenhaus, Middlebury; Goshen Brewing Company, Goshen; Iechyd Da Brewing Company, Elkhart; and South Side Soda Shop, Goshen. Steinweg shares her observations as well as the backstory of each business.

“We’re incredibly proud of the entrepreneurs and talented creators behind the Blue Gate, Essenhaus, GBCo, Iechyd Da and South Side Soda Shop. We love especially that visitors to Elkhart County enjoy dining in Elkhart County so much that they come back again and again and extend their visits to check out the many great attractions and experiences here,” said Jon Hunsberger, executive director of the Elkhart County CVB.
Steinweg founded the Chicago Foodie Sisters blog with her sister in 2011, and she’s been writing about food since 2000 for a variety of outlets, including the Northwest Indiana Times and VisitIndiana.com. She has written eight books.
