Embark on a Journey of Culture and Tradition
Imagine yourself meandering through the serene, rolling hills of Northern Indiana, where time seems to slow down and the rhythm of life is guided by tradition. As you wander through the countryside, you’ll pass by Amish farms, each one a snapshot of a simpler way of life. Horse-drawn buggies gently clip-clop along the quiet roads, a soothing reminder of days gone by.
Step into charming, quaint shops that line the way, where the air is filled with the scent of freshly crafted wood and the sight of intricate quilts, each stitch a testament to the artistry and dedication of the local artisans. These treasures, whether a beautifully handcrafted piece of furniture or a jar of homemade preserves, carry with them the story of the hands that made them.
And then, there’s the food—a true taste of the land. Every meal is a feast for the senses, made with the freshest ingredients harvested from the very fields you’ve just passed. The flavors are rich and hearty, each bite a celebration of the bounty that the countryside provides.
In Elkhart County, everything is Well Crafted - meticulously made by hands that cherish their craft and by hearts that hold tradition close. Here, in this corner of the world, tradition, artistry, and the natural beauty of the landscape come together to create an experience that is as enriching as it is unforgettable. Getting Here & Travel Tips:
Welcome to Elkhart County, nestled in the heart of America! Traveling from Canada is simple and thanks to a network of scenic, limited-access highways, you can reach us in less than a day from many major cities and towns in the region. We're also within close proximity to major metropolitan areas, interstates, highways, and airports. Once you're here, you'll find that most of the major attractions along the Heritage Trail are within an hour's drive of I-80/90, easily accessible via well-marked, scenic US and Indiana routes.
Here are a few tips you’ll want to know before you leave:
- Many attractions, shopping, and dining establishments in Amish Country are closed on Sundays. We recommend contacting individual businesses to confirm their days and hours of operation.
- Amish Country observes Eastern Standard Time (EST)
Here are a few tips to make your currency exchange experience smooth:
- Check the Rate: Before you leave, check the current exchange rate to get an idea of how much your Canadian dollars are worth in U.S. currency. This will help you budget for your trip.
- Exchange Options: Some local banks and ATMs in Elkhart County may also offer currency exchange, but it’s often more convenient and cost-effective to exchange money before you cross the border.
- Using Credit and Debit Cards: Most credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Elkhart County, and they typically offer competitive exchange rates. However, be aware that your bank may charge a foreign transaction fee, so it’s a good idea to check with your bank before using your cards.
- Consider Carrying Some Cash: While many places accept cards, some businesses in Amish Country might only accept cash, so it’s a good idea to have some U.S. dollars on hand.
