More than a century ago, Hoosier native and Indy 500 founder Carl Fisher conceived the idea of a coast-to-coast auto road, naming it in honor of Abraham Lincoln. As you pass through rural vistas and historic main streets, you will see first-hand how local residents embrace history by lovingly preserving original structures/businesses, carefully restoring buildings to their original use, and creatively adapting buildings for unique reuse. You will also see aspects of transportation developed over the past 150 years that make Elkhart County a crossroads of transportation.

As you explore the Byway, stop and explore, visit museums, stroll main streets with unique architecture, explore retail shops and enjoy food and treats offered by local eateries and specialty shops. Outdoors enthusiasts, bring your kayak, canoe, or bike to Fidler Pond and Benton Landing – River Preserve Parks.
