Auctions are a popular part of Amish Country commerce drawing Amish and non-Amish to bid on all sorts of items. More
When I go, I rarely place a bid. I like the energy of it all. The cadence of the auctioneers working the crowds. The noise of the bidders. And the excitement of the winning bidders. Auctions can be a great source of entertainment and fun experiences.
Amish and “English” (non-Amish) farmers fill the stands at the weekly hay and livestock auctions in Shipshewana. Antique lovers show up regularly at the weekly Shipshewana Antique Auction. Plus farm and estate auctions take place year-round too. Each fall, the Michiana Mennonite Relief sale draws thousands of people to the quilt auction – and it’s all for a good cause.
If you’re looking for a fun way to really experience Amish Country, catch an auction. It’s an entertaining way to find that “special something.” And if you’re going just for the entertainment of it all, remember to keep you hand down!
